Fraudulent Text Message Attempts to Obtain Debit Card Information

Posted 2/28/2012

The credit union was alerted this afternoon about fraudulent text messages originating from a 917 area code that inform members that their Mastercard debit cards have been blocked. The text message states that they need to call MasterCard security department. Once the number is called, they are instructed to enter their 16 digit card number. THIS TEXT IS FRAUDULENT! As a reminder, Enfact (the credit union's debit card fraud monitoring program) will never text or email members to verify transactions, nor will they ever ask for card number. To date, the texts have been received primarily by Verizon service customers. If you receive a text of this nature, please disregard and do not call the number provided or input your card number. As always, our member's account safety is one of our top priorities.
